February is Black History Month, and our school district is buzzing with exciting activities honoring the incredible contributions of Black individuals throughout history. From fostering leadership skills in our youngest learners to celebrating artistic expression in our high schoolers, we're committed to creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.
Elementary Learners Embrace Leadership:
Our amazing elementary school teachers sparked inspiration with a captivating read-aloud of "The Youngest Marcher" by Cynthia Levinson, immersing young minds in the story of Audrey Faye Hendricks, a powerful young voice in the Civil Rights Movement. But the learning didn't stop there! Engaging activities helped students explore the message that everyone has the potential to be a leader, empowering them to make a positive impact in their own communities.
Celebrating African Americans and the Arts:
Aligned with this year's national theme, our middle and high school students focused on the vibrant world of African Americans and the Arts. The talented members of the National Art Honors Society have poured their hearts into creating stunning artwork inspired by a range of Black artists. Immerse yourself in their creations as they are displayed with pride in either the cafeteria or the gymnasium throughout the rest of February!
Get Creative with Our Student-Led Workshops:
Not only can you admire the beautiful artwork by our National Art Honors Society, but you can also learn directly from these talented students! During lunch periods, our passionate art students are leading engaging workshops, guiding other students through the styles and techniques of the celebrated Black artists who inspired their own work. No prior experience is necessary! Whether you're a budding artist or simply looking for a fun and creative outlet, these workshops welcome everyone to participate and express themselves. One more week to join in the fun!
Black History Month is more than just a celebration; it's an opportunity for learning, reflection, and action. Join us in honoring the past, embracing the present, and inspiring the future!
